7 Valuable Ways to Unearth Potential [Part 3]

“You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.”

― Bob Marley

The Three Important Factors

Have you ever had to cross a swampy path? The key word there is had. In other words, you have little choice than to do it. Normally, when we are afforded choices to make, for the most part, we lean on the part that guarantees comfort, gives certainty of our desired outcome and is less risky. Those three things play a critical part in our daily decision making processes.

Now, remembering that potential is mostly hidden, I therefore submit that for the most part, it will stay hidden to the degree that we will go against the grain and embrace these three factors

  • Discomfort
  • Risk
  • Uncertainty

I dare say that as long as we are operating our lives specifically to feed our needs for comfort, certainty and maintenance of the status quo, our hidden potential will remain dormant, unused, inactivated, and ultimately, wasted.

A Recap

So before we continue with that thought, let us remind ourselves of the meaning of the word potential, at least from the angle of view of Life Signatures.

“Potential is a unique pre-set field of boundless possibilities that the Creator incorporated at inception, in the life of each individual born of a woman”.

How to Unearth Potential

From the definition above, inherently we know that you will not find potential lying on the surface waiting to be picked up. You will notice however, that it does require cultivation―’seeking, knocking and asking incessantly’

1. Get Revelation on the Potential Principle:

2.Take the Path of Most Resistance:

There is nothing that kills potential like mindless and purposeless activities do. Over the years, we have created patterns of activities, events, procedures, ceremonies and cultures whose end is very predictable. The focus of these things is seldom to unearth potential, but mostly to grow up on Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs.

If you are going to unearth your potential, you will have to put a stop to routines and a way of life that has no focus on stretching you in order to release the very best of who you are as a person, in terms of potential.  Throughout our life span, we go through one familiar cycle from generation to generation.

The fact of the matter is that there are some phases of the cycle above that need to have a clear focus on unearthing potential. Right from early development a parent needs to have the guts to go against the grain and unearth the potential of a child.

My focus however is on the whole aspect of school and career development. This is the fertile ground where we can breed the potentials of very many people. However, do these phases do exactly that? For the most part, the focus of the school system is to produce as many employable people as possible. That doesn’t augur well with the doctrine of unearthing potential.

If we will unearth the potential of our next generations, it is incumbent upon us to start now going against the grain, and making sure that all the phases of their lives draw out their full potential. There has to be reform. Otherwise, we will keep hearing about “Alternative Education”.

We shall pick this discussion up in the next post.

Question: Are you faithfully fitting in?
