7 Valuable ways to Unearth Potential [Part 8]

“I’ve had 20 coaches, if you can believe it. And that’s not a typo. I have a speech coach, I have a writing coach, I have a humor coach, I’ve got a language coach, and on and on.”

–Harvey Mackay

Jesus had one. Paul had one. Michael Jackson had one. All the great athletes of today cannot perform at a great level without one. Who is he?

Potential is such a great thing to unearth and nurture. Of course there are very many definitions out there for the word “Potential”, but I will give you a Life Signatures definition:

“Potential is a unique pre-set field of boundless possibilities that the Creator incorporated at inception, in the life of each individual born of a woman”.

Life Signatures

A Recap:

Over the month of December 2015, we have highlighted on this all important topic and we have learnt a great deal along the way. The following are the ways you can unearth potential:

1. Get Revelation on the Potential Principle:

2.Take the Path of Most Resistance:

3. Lean onto Natural Gifts and Talents:

4. Live on the Edge:

5. Leverage on the Power of Focus

6. Get Locked into your Life Purpose

7. Draw from trusted Mentors and Coaches

My favorite soccer coach of all time of course is Arsene Wenger. Why? Because he loves to use the minimal of resources to unearth the greatest potential of footballers.

“True mentors and coaches are the traders in personal potential. Some of them have this uncanny ability to see what we don’t see ourselves. They are seasoned people whose major focus in life is to bring out the very best out of others”.

He has an uncanny way of turning an unknown footballer into a world class beater. In the era where many football clubs rely heavily on world class signings to make an impact, Wenger has meticulously nurtured youngsters and upgraded them to most of his teams.

Now you would be wrong to assume that mentors and coaches are only needed in sports and business. The truth is that mentorship is the way that God designed potential to be unearthed in the first place. Parents have been commanded to coach and mentor their children from the home. That used to happen a lot…until someone brought up something called school.

School brought us Teachers, Head teachers, disciplinarians, Deans, Chancellors, and Prefects. Sadly, coaches are in the school systems only to focus on sports. Coaching has to be the central theme of any schooling system that is entrusted with the noble responsibility of unearthing potential. But why is it relegated to the periphery?

In this day and age, we need mentors and coaches in abundance. We need people who are so sold out to unearthing potential in others. Believe me, it is a God thing. It is a Godly mandate. Jesus Christ had a very severe suggestion as to how they should be punished that ‘led children astray’. Tie a rock on their neck and throw them in the sea!!!

Children typify potential more than any age group in the human life. Of course there is no expiration of some aspects of potential, but at a young age, that potential needs to be nurtured and brought to the fore. That is why Jesus was so particular about it. If you look at the opposite of the punishment He suggested, then it tells you that he is so passionate about the children being led well, unearthing all their potential.

This is all I had for you in 2015. I wish you the very best of life, full of realized potential in 2016 and beyond!
